Mental Health & Faith
February 1 / 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Saturday, February 1st 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall
We are excited to have Jared & Abbie Whipple here with us to help our families better work through the conversation of Mental Health. This is a seminar for both parents and teens! We will have a split session to start, separating parents and teens, then we will come together for a practical application. You won’t want to miss this amazing opportunity.
The Whipple’s will also be joining the teens on Friday night, January 31st, at youth group.
Friday Night + Saturday morning for teens: What do you think of when you think “mental health?” Anxiety and racing thoughts? Schizophrenia? Trauma? We’ll take an honest look at what it means to be mentally healthy, what to do when we experience depression, anxiety, and other challenges, and how our faith plays a role in wellness. Come ready for Q & A and to discuss tools that can help when things get hard.
Saturday Parent session:
How do I help my teen with their mental health struggles? What does it look like to support them when I don’t fully understand their experience? Let’s talk about ways you can come alongside your teens as they navigate the difficult terrain of growing in independence while still living at home and the anxiety they experience along the way. We’ll talk family structure, boundaries, and how you can show up for your teens as the people who matter most in their lives.
Saturday Parent + teens combined:
As families, we need to talk about things that really matter. We want to communicate effectively, but that’s challenging when we can’t see one another’s side and we don’t feel heard and understood. This workshop is an interactive experience to learn how to have more respectful conversations and foster an atmosphere of understanding within our family.
Jared is a licensed professional counselor who also happens to have two degrees in theology. He loves talking about growth and transformation, and helping people move closer to the version of themselves they want to be. In his spare time you’ll probably find him reading and listening to audiobooks or hanging out at a local board game shop.
Abbie grew up homeschooling with her six siblings in Massachusetts. She received her undergrad in Theology and Christian Education from Zion/Northpoint Bible College. Abbie worked in church ministries till 2020, when she followed her love of psychology and pursued her masters in marriage and family therapy. She graduated from Liberty University in 2024 and became provisionally licensed in the state of Connecticut. Abbie deeply enjoys the work of counseling. She is passionate about walking with others through their transformation process. She specifically enjoys working with families and couples to enrich their marriages and family bonds. Abbie enjoys dragging her husband to social events, playing with her daughter, starting DIY projects she can’t finish, and playing games with family and friends.
Abbie and Jared met in college, but they didn’t start dating till many years later (proof that men can break out of the friend zone with enough tenacity). Last year, they celebrated five years of marriage and welcomed their daughter Hope into the world. Jared and Abbie started “Through the Storm Counseling” together in 2022.
