Here are some questions to help you discuss the lesson with your kids:

1. David was a good king, and led his people like a shepherd. Why would a shepherd make a good king?

2. Who is our Great Shepherd and King? (Jesus) How does Jesus care for you as your Shepherd?

3. David was close to God and it showed. Did you see the fruit of the Spirit in David’s life as you watched the lesson video? For each of the Fruit of the Sprit listed below, name one way that David showed that quality:

– love
– joy
– peace
– patience
– kindness
– goodness
– faithfulness
– gentleness
– self-control

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. – Galatians 5:22-23

Seek God together

Take turns sharing one Fruit of the Spirit you would each like to grow more of.

Then, remind your kids that the Fruit of the Spirit are qualities that God has. God wants to work in our lives to grow us to be more and more like Him.

Next, use the P.R.A.Y. building blocks of prayer to structure your prayer time:

PRAISE – Have each person say a sentence prayer of praise to Jesus, our Shepherd King, thanking Him for the ways He takes care of them.

REPENT – Lead your family in a prayer of repentance:
“Lord, forgive us for the times when we wander from You. We forget to lean on You for help. We become selfish and unloving. We fail to show kindness. We give in to our anger and we lack gentleness and self-control. Thank you God for your patience and forgiveness. We humbly repent and ask you to come into our hearts and change us.”

ASK – Have each person say a sentence prayer asking God to help them grow the Fruit of the Spirit they mentioned earlier.

YIELD – Take a moment for everyone to silently reflect on their relationship with God. Encourage everyone to yield to God. If they have been trying to “be kings and queens” over their own lives, let this be an opportunity to surrender/yield to God and say yes to Him as King. Then lead your family in this prayer:
“Thank You Lord, for never giving up on us. Please lead us all the days of our lives. Please fill us with Your Holy Spirit and help us grow as we learn to walk with You. Thank You for being with us. Our lives belong to You. We love you, Lord Jesus, our Shepherd and our King.“
