Parents, just follow the instructions and have a great time with your kids worshipping God and learning from His Word together!

Lesson: Breaking News… Easter!

First watch this lesson video:

After the video

Explore together

Here are some questions and activities to help you discuss the lesson with your kids.
  1. Have a family member read Matthew 28:1-10.

2. Breaking News Interview:

Have one family member pretend to be a news reporter. Make a “microphone” using something around the house or a rolled up piece of paper.

The rest of the family should each pick a person they would like to pretend to be from the Resurrection account: one of the guards, one of the women, or one of the disciples who saw Jesus alive. The reporter should then interview each family member about the first Easter using the following questions:

  • – Describe what happened (what you saw and heard) in your own words.
  • – How did you feel?

3. Memory Verse Time! Tell your kids: “Since Jesus rose from the dead we can truly say, ‘Hosanna! Hooray! Our King has come to rescue us.’ Jesus died to take away our sin; now He is alive to forever be our King!” Then have your kids write the memory verse on a piece of paper or the crown template below. They may also want to decorate their papers.

Memory verse:

“He has risen just as He said.” – Matthew 28:6

When you’re finished writing it down, say it together using the sign language from the lesson video.

Seek God together

As you take a few minutes to pray together, remind your children that the story of Jesus is the best news ever. Have everyone close their eyes and think of someone they know who needs to know the Good News that Jesus died to save us, and is alive.

Then let everyone take turns saying sentence prayers, filling in the blank with the person they thought of: “Lord Jesus, thank You for Your love. Please help _________________ to know Your love too and the Good News that You are alive!”

Then have someone close with this blessing.

Lord Jesus, You have risen just as You said. May we be filled with faith in You, filled with joy because You are alive, filled with the peace of knowing You have saved us and are our forever King!

Celebrate together

Jesus is alive! Celebrate together with these songs. Pick one or sing them all! Happy Easter!
